Each Read to Me bag contains a selection of carefully chosen, age-appropriate baby books. The books are selected by a team of experts in early literacy and early childhood development and are changed every few years. Below is a description of materials in the English bag.
Read to Me bags are also available in Arabic, Chinese, French, Gaelic and Mi'kmaq. Click on each language to see the contents of each bag. Please note the selection of books in these bags can vary. We also offer individual books in 26 languages upon request, based on availability.
Babies Love Books Reading Guide:
Babies Love Books is a month-by-month guide featuring information on reading development, tips for activities as well as book suggestions and rhymes to sing. Parents and caregivers can hang the guide on the wall as an easy and informative daily reference. This resource is available to other literacy programs from Nimbus Publishing.
Songs and Rhymes for Baby Booklet:
Talking and singing are important early literacy activities that you can do with your baby, any time, anywhere, right from birth. This beautiful booklet, featuring artwork by collage artist Angela Doak, will give you fun rhymes to entertain your baby, and soothing lullabies to calm them when they are tired. This booklet also has versions in Arabic, French, Gaelic, Simplified Chinese and Spanish. Versions in additional languages are currently in development.
Library Welcome Card:
This card welcomes your baby to Nova Scotia's Public Libraries. Libraries have books, programs and other services for the whole family to enjoy, Simply bring this card to your community library to register for your baby’s permanent library card.
